St. Mary’s Hospital Unveils New Logo

Hospital part of system advancing the future of health care

Decatur, IL –– At a press conference this morning, St. Mary’s Hospital, an affiliate of Hospital Sisters Health System (HSHS), unveiled its new logo to the community. The logo design incorporates a traditional religious symbol into a fresh, contemporary design, just as the hospital combines its history of compassionate care with the latest in medical science and technology to make health care better for patients.

“The symbol reflects our Catholic heritage and our commitment to remain an important part of the healing ministry of the Church. Yet it also brings us into the future, where we are committed to changing the way health care is delivered in this community –– to making it more efficient, higher quality and a better experience for you, our patient,” said Kevin F. Kast, President and CEO of St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur.

The launch of St. Mary’s new logo comes in the midst of a multi-million dollar redevelopment project to expand and modernize the hospital facilities. Just as the physical structure of the hospital is changing, so is its visual identity.

“St. Mary’s has been quietly and confidently working to better serve the health care needs of the Decatur community. Bringing world-class neurosurgeons to Decatur, expanding our partnership with Prairie Heart Institute, receiving advanced certification for stroke care –– these are just some of the steps we are taking to build an exceptional hometown hospital for the community,” said Kast. “Our new logo reflects this evolution. It is a visible symbol –– a promise to our community –– of our commitment to provide nothing short of exceptional care.”

The new logo is shared by 13 HSHS-affiliated hospitals and HSHS Medical Group throughout Illinois and Wisconsin to demonstrate their bond as part of a united, strong and viable health care system.

“The use of a common logo for our hospitals communicates the strength of our hospital system and the value it brings to our patients,” said Theresa Rutherford, Chief Operating Officer of St. Mary’s Hospital.  “Just as we are connected with a common symbol, the hospitals of HSHS are also united in our commitment for the future –– to work together, sharing our expertise, technology and resources to make health care better for all people.”

The new logo is a stylized version of the Tau, a letter of the Greek alphabet that has become a characteristic symbol of the religious order founded by St. Francis of Assisi.  The open spaces in the circle surrounding the Tau symbolize the inclusive nature of St.Mary's and our commitment to care for all people in need, especially the less fortunate.  For more information about the history and the significance of the Tau, visit www.stmarysdecatur.com.
