Our objective to provide quality care in a spirit of simplicity, joy, and dedication began in 1875 when three Hospital Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis traveled from Muenster, Germany to the Midwest, establishing Decatur’s first hospital on November 19, 1878. With community support and the dedication of our valued medical staff, employees and volunteers, St. Mary’s Hospital has developed into a modern facility that combines state-of-the-art technology with the caring spirit of the original Franciscan Sisters.

St. Mary’s is a special place, and each employee plays a unique role in carrying on the Sisters’ rich tradition of healing and compassion.
