St. Mary's Hospital of Today

St. Mary's Hospital has been part of the Decatur and Macon County community since 1878. And as the community has grown and evolved, St. Mary's has grown and evolved right along with it.

St. Mary's has completed the first steps of an aggressive campus modernization and renovation project, covering three floors and over 94,000 feet of space. The new Emergency Department, Clinical Laboratory and campus revitalization will provide an even better environment for healing, the beginning of a multi-year project that will make St. Mary's Hospital one of the most modern medical centers in the region.

In the future, we will also expand our surgical capabilities with new, leading-edge surgical suites and acquire the latest, most advanced medical technology. This is just the beginning. Our partnership with the Prairie Heart Institute will also expand to include the construction of a state of the art Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory.

As Decatur and Macon County grow into tomorrow, St. Mary's is committed to growing and evolving hand-in-hand.

Emergency Department

The new St. Mary's Emergency Department was designed to maximize efficiency and response times, while offering greater comfort and privacy for patients and their loved ones.

25% greater capacity.

Our new Emergency Department will have the capacity for more than 44,000 patients per year, an increase of 25% over the previous design.

More efficient design.

Examination rooms, triage and care areas have been designed to maximize workflow and increase interaction between patients, physicians, nurses and staff.

A more comfortable seating area.

The spacious check-in and seating area will provide plenty of room for patients, their families and companions.

Greater privacy and family interaction.

Examination rooms are separate from the general work area, allowing for a calmer environment with easier access and interaction for patients' families.

Faster trauma and ambulance reception.

Easier access and a new design allows Emergency Medical Technicians and other first responders to work more quickly and effectively.

Nature's healing garden.

Patients and their loved ones can now experience the restorative capabilities of nature while they pray or gather their thoughts in the healing garden.

Clinical Laboratory

The lower level of the Emergency Department is also home to our new Clinical Laboratory, expanding our laboratory capabilities and increasing our ability to perform laboratory work with speed and efficiency.

Main Lobby

The hospital's two-story lobby and reception area is also completely new, with an open, inviting design that creates a sense of tranquility. Vegetation and water are represented throughout, in the spirit of the Franciscan belief of nature's healing capability.

Convenient access to the main lobby and registration area comes via a covered, circular driveway; a newly expanded gift shop and future food service choices will also be easily accessibly from the lobby area.
