When the time arrives for your little one to be born, St. Mary’ Maternity Services will care for you both with the compassion and support that you have come to expect from us. And after your baby is born, we will keep him or her safe, using a high-tech infant security system which alerts our staff if an infant goes anywhere near the security perimeter.
At St. Mary’s, we want to make your hospital stay as calm and comfortable as possible as you experience the miracle of childbirth.
Your Birthing Suite - back to top of page
Gone are the days of delivering your child in a dreary, cold and sterile-looking hospital room. St. Mary’s offers comfortable and charming private birthing rooms that serve as your labor, delivering and recovery (LDR) room. Each LDR room has comfortable furnishings, including a reclining/sleeping chair for your labor support person, as well as a private shower. To enhance your birthing experience, a squatting bar, birthing ball and mirror are available if you choose to use them. Of course, your private LDR room is also equipped with all the technology needed to monitor the safety of you and your baby during labor and delivery.
After delivery, you will find our private postpartum room just the right place to begin the bonding process with your baby. The spacious room is big enough for your baby to room-in with you during your entire hospital stay if you would like. And your partner/support person can spend the night with you using the foldout bed in the room.
Special Delivery Packages - back to top of page
St. Mary’s has several special packages available at an added cost to help you celebrate the birth of your baby. To purchase one, please contact the Gift Shop at 464-2334.
How would you like to spend an additional night in the hospital after your birth? St. Mary’s offers a program called Bed, Breakfast and Baby, which gives you extra time to learn about your newborn with nurses nearby to assist you with breastfeeding and baby care. We invite you to stay with us for an extra night following your discharge for only $25.00. To learn more about Bed, Breakfast & Baby or to obtain a gift certificate, please call 464-2334.

Special Care Nursery - back to top of page
We understand that sometimes new moms need a few moments to rest. That is why St. Mary’s offers a fully staffed newborn nursery. You can be assured that our experienced nursing team will care for your baby in the nursery any time you wish, allowing you to focus on your rest and recovery. In addition to our standard newborn nursery, St. Mary’s has a special care nursery for babies who require additional medical attention or specialized care. In our special care nursery, we can stabilize high-risk and/or premature infants for transportation to a Level III NICU at our sister hospital St. John’s in Springfield, Carle Foundation Hospital in Champaign or another hospital as recommended by your care provider.
Breastfeeding Support - back to top of page
Our Maternity Services team has helped thousands of new moms establish tender, loving breastfeeding relationships with their babies. We encourage skin-to-skin contact between mom and baby immediately upon birth to enhance bonding and breastfeeding. In addition to our experienced nurses, we have International Board Certified Lactation Consultants on staff for individual consultations during your hospital stay. Florence Folami, one of our International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBLC), can be reached by pager 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at 217-464-2536, extension #305.
