Bone Density Scanning

Bone Density Scanning (also called dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry, DXA or DEXA) is an enhanced X-Ray technology used to measure bone loss and diagnose osteoporosis. DEXA also tracks the effects of treatment for conditions that cause bone loss.

As a patient:

  • A bone density test is a quick and painless procedure.
  • DXA bone density testing is the most accurate method available for the diagnosis of osteoporosis and is also considered an accurate estimator of fracture risk.
  • The DXA bone density test is usually completed within 10 to 30 minutes, depending on the equipment used and the parts of the body being examined.
Equipment:
  • GE Lunar Prodigy
Routine Hours:
  • Monday through Friday - 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
