Medical Care Services
The colleagues, Medical Staff and volunteers welcome you to HSHS St.Mary's Hospital. Spending time with us may not be something you planned, but while you are here you are more than our patient — you are our guest.
We are committed to delivering the highest level of health care possible to our patients. Our approach to health care combines the compassion and human touch of more than a century of caring with the most modern technologies available today.
Intensive Care provides specialized monitoring and treatment to patients of all ages 24 hours a day. The Intensive Care staff performs admission assessment and screening of patients, and develops a plan of care that addresses the patient's physiological, psychological, social/cultural, spiritual, and environmental needs.
We treat patients who have a variety of conditions including cardiac, respiratory or infectious conditions, diabetic patients, cancer patients requiring pain management, patients needing end of life care, and any patients who need outpatient services that cannot be accommodated in Same Day Surgery or the Procedure suites.
Medical Care serves a wide range of age groups, from adolescent through geriatric patients, with many patients coming from area nursing homes. The primary diagnoses for patients include pneumonia, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, Congestive Heart Failure, rehabilitation, gastrointestinal disorders and chest pain.
We provide care 24 hours per day to infants, children and adolescents. Patients are assessed on admission and a plan of care is developed to meet the needs of the patient and family. Other mechanisms to determine patient needs include patient satisfaction surveys and chart reviews. Staffing is adjusted according to volume and acuity. At least one pediatric-trained registered nurse is on duty in-house at all times regardless of volume.
Surgical Care provides care for patients who have undergone general surgical procedures, excluding joint replacement.
Dedicated to caring for their patients with quality care and compassion, the Surgical Care staff focus on patients needs. They take measures to control pain and to educate patients on medications they may receive.
