National Donate Life Month

Nearly 122,000 men, women and children are awaiting an organ transplant in the United States. Unfortunately, another person is added to the nation’s organ transplant list every ten minutes.

In 2003, Donate Life America and its partnering organizations declared April “National Donate Life Month”, a time to focus on encouraging Americans to register as organ, eye and tissue donors and to celebrate those who have saved lives through the gift of donation. Last year, approximately 30,000 people began new lives thanks to organ transplants.

HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital will host an organ, tissue and bone marrow donor drive on Friday, April 15 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm in the Main Lobby of the hospital. At the event you will be able to sign up for the organ, tissue and bone marrow registries, as well as learn a little more about what it means to be a donor.

St. Mary’s Hospital partners with Gift of Hope, an organ and tissue donor network, and Be the Match, a bone marrow registry, as part of the “Hospitals for Hope” campaign. This year, St. Mary’s goal is to register 100 new organ donors by the end of April.
